With Burn five kinds of data disks can be burned. Mac (HFS+): HFS+ is the most used format on Macs. Most other operating systems don't recognize HFS+ disks. PC (Joliet): Joliet more frequently used then HFS+. Most operating systems and devices recognize joiliet. DVD (UDF)*: UDF is developed to be the replacement of joliet and used on DVD disks. UDF keeps recourceforks intact. Most newer operating systems recognize UDF. Mac + PC: Both HFS+ and joliet on one disk. Usefull for using on Macs and PCs without losing Mac specific properties. DVD-Video*: Mostly used on DVD Video disks. *Panther users: UDF burning and creating images isn't supported by Apple in Panther. With Burn two kinds of audio disks can be burned. Audio CD: Burn can use all QuickTime compatible files to create a audio CD. A audio CD needs to be on a CD and can't be burned on DVD. MP3 Disk: Burn can use all QuickTime compatible and ffmpeg compatible file to create MP3 disk. A MP3 disk can be burned on both DVD and CD. With Burn you can burn four kinds of video disks. VCD*: Burn can use all QuickTime compatible and ffmpeg compatible files to create VCD disks. It converts files which need to be converted. It can create both PAL and NTSC files. It creates cue/bin files to burn. SVCD*: Burn can use all QuickTime compatible and ffmpeg compatible files to create SVCD disks. It converts files which need to be converted. It can create both PAL and NTSC files. It creates cue/bin files to burn. DVD: Burn can use all QuickTime compatible and ffmpeg compatible files to create DVD disks. It converts files which need to be converted. It can create both PAL and NTSC files. It creates a authorized folder to burn. DivX: Burn can use all QuickTime compatible and ffmpeg compatible files to create DivX disks. It converts files which need to be converted. It will create a Mac + PC formatted disk. *Panther users: Burning images in Panther isn't supported by Apple. Creating the images however is supported by Burn. You'll have to use a other application to burn them. With Burn three kinds of image disks can be burned. It can also scan for disks and use them as images to burn. Normal images*: Burn can burn standard images with the extensions: img, dmg, cdr, toast and iso. Cue/bin*: Cue/bin images often used to create multi track disks. Toc*: Only mode 1 toc images are supported. Scaning disks*: In the Items menu you can scan for disks. Most disks can be used as images. Audio CD disks can't be copied, because these disks don't contain a filesystem. *Panther users: Burning images in Panther isn't supported by Apple.
